FDA Reports on Vision Correction Surgery
"FDA has no statutory authority over the practice of medicine and thus cannot certify ophthalmic surgeons. That function is performed by each individual state medical licensing board, who determines what education and experience surgeons need. FDA does have consumer information on LASIK at its Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) consumer website. Go to [www.fda.gov/cdrh], select "Special Interest" and then the "Consumer Information" subset. Scroll down to "LASIK" for links to consumer information." Sincerely
yours, _________________________________________________________________________________
